1st May 2009

Easily the night of the year so far with 42 moths of 25 species including one new species for the garden and eight new for the year. I ran both traps and this time the MV out-performed the actinic. I was up at dawn after I heard a commotion from the actinic - it looks like one of the fledgling Song Thrushes had an encounter with the trap but no harm done to either.

A very battered and unphotogenic Diamond-backed Moth was the first probable migrant of the year and a Gelechid remains to be identified.

The garden first was another micro - Eriocrania subpurpurella - this one also rather the worse for wear:

New for the year were:

Scrobipalpa acuminatella:

Cochylis atricapitana:

Chinese Character:

A rather worn Streamer:

Ruby Tiger:

Dog's Tooth:

The Spectacle:
