August 2012

Depressaria badiella is new to the garden list whilst Aroga velocella and Aproaerema anthyllidella are both the second records for these species. What proved to be a standard Common Rustic was very similar in appearance to my only garden record of Lesser - just shows how careful you have to be. I recorded the unusual form of female Cnephasia longana several times this summer after only having seen it once before. Finally, Coleophora versurella has been recorded several times here in the past but I've not managed a good photo before.

11th July 2010

A much cooler night but although rain was forecast it didn't materialize. Numbers were well down in the MV trap with half the moths of the previous night but interestingly the actinic actually performed better with c60 more moths of 9 more species.

Six species were new for the year including the second garden records of Mere Wainscot and V-Pug. Unfortunately the pug was dead in the bottom of the trap. I've also included a photo of a Double Lobed together with a Common Rustic trying to look like a Double Lobed.

19th June 2009

A couple of degrees warmer overnight, a drop in the wind and we were back up to well over 200 moths and 65 species across the two traps. Several new for the year included one of my favourites - Buff Arches, the moth that pretends it's already been eaten!

This geometer had me searching the books and web-sites. It turned out to be an unusual form of a common moth.
