Two torts were also new for the year - Epinotia immundana and Bactra furfurana. I'm confident of the ID of the Bactra as there was an influx here last summer, but I have retained the moth for gen.det.

The first really busy night of the year with 89 moths of 44 species spread across two traps - ten new species for the year were recorded. A tort (probably Cochylidia implicitana), a pug (Common?) and two gelechids remain to be identified. A fly-off pug looked very much like Freyer's but I didn't get a good enough look to be sure.

Netted at dusk this slightly battered Nemapogon cloacella (Cork Moth) is new for the year.

20th May 2009

Things starting to build up now as the wind drops and night time temperatures continue to climb. Fifteen species included six new for the year and an unknown Gelechid.

A good night with 32 moths of 17 species including two new for the year.

Four more new species brings the total for the garden so far this year up to 100. A belated first Brindled Pug flew before I could take a decent picture but a beautiful Common Marbled Carpet posed very nicely for me:


Two Large Nutmegs were very different from each other:


Finally the first of the minors turned up. Almost certainly this is a Marbled Minor but will have to be go into the records as 'agg' without dissection.

Five new species for the year from a total of just ten moths in the trap over what was another warm, dry but very windy night.
