The very beautiful (and almost impossible to photograph well!) Lilac Beauty was the star of a good night with 108 moths of 46 species. In all there were three species that were new for the year.

54 species across the two traps was a good result for what hadn't looked like being a very productive night - only a handful of moths had come to light by midnight. Even better was the smart Poplar Kitten sitting on the wall by the actinic - a garden first. There were also 5 species new for the year.

Another cool night but two species added to the year list.

14th June 2009 - nighttime

With just the actinic trap running overnight and a sharp drop in temperature the catch was much reduced. Still managed a few NFYs however.

It proved to be third time lucky this afternoon with two Red-belted Clearwings to lure - I think the previous two attempts it was probably too windy.

13th June 2009 - macros

The first migrant noctuid of the year was this rather worn Dark Sword-grass:

Another excellent night with 226 moths of 74 species including a garden first in the form of Eidophasia messingella - it looks like this micro has only been recorded once before in VC 31. Eleven other species were new for the year.
