7th August 2014

Despite continued warm nights the moth traps are already far quieter than they were with just 50 species recorded last night. One was new to the garden however Apotomis betuletana.

The first Lesser Swallow Prominent for the garden.

Ypsolopha horridella is new for the garden whilst this was the smartest Tree-lichen beauty caught so far (4th for garden).

Second garden record of Antler Moth.

18th July 2014

Marbled Clover was a second garden record and this was an unusual form of Brown-tail.

16th July 2014

A garden first in the form of a somewhat worn Acleris holmiana and a garden second in Platytes alpinella.

Monday 23 June 2014

22nd June 2014

The first Angle-barred Pug for the garden was the highlight of a very good night and appears to be the first VC31 record since 1974. Pempeliella dilutella was the second garden record following one in 2006 and Dark Spectacle the 3rd, with one last year and one in 2008.

Saturday 14 June 2014

13th June 2014

A very busy night last night with nearly 400 moths of 90 species across the two traps. Highlights were the second garden records of the huge tortrix Epiblema grandaevana ad Red-necked Footman.

Sunday 1 June 2014

31st May 2014

208 moths of 58 species is easily the best haul of the year to date with several species new for the year. Elephant Hawkmoth, Middle-barred Minor, Beautiful China-mark, Eucosma cana and Hedya nubiferana are all annual. A very early Bordered Sallow was the first here for 3 years and I haven't seen Sloe Pug since 2008.

Thursday 22 May 2014

17th May 2014

A far better start to the year with warm weather in mid-May producing many species up to 2 weeks earlier than normal. The first addition to the garden list was the tiny (3mm) Phyllonorycter viminetorum.
